Story
To compensate her ‘solitary’ work as an autonomous artist in the studio, Esther likes to carry out her creativity in collaboration with other professionals in special projects. Using the 3 pillars of clay, paint and design a wide range of different projects have been realized.
From side specific artwork ‘Reflections’ for gemeente Harderwijk to unique objects for the Conservatorium Hotel Amsterdam
The municipality of Harderwijk has been developing the historic boulevard along Wolderwijd. In collaboration with landscape architects VIC Activating Landscapes van der Sluis was asked to design and realize a side specific art piece. This piece is especially designed for this location and made by hand. The name Reflections refers to reflection of (sun-)light on the ceramic tiles. But in a figuratively way it also refers to the soothing atmosphere of this location and invites you to daydream.
For the Conservatorium Hotel Amsterdam Esther did several projects with Michelin star chef Schilo van Coevorden. Designing special objects. For example the design and creation of a soypitcher. The object had to bring together the worlds of japanese roots, the Chef and soy from Dutch soil. These ‘ingredients’ have resulted in a sober shape (like an Erlemeyer) made out of thin porcelain and a handmade pattern of Oxide Blue. In recent years Esther has realized a number of building projects in close cooperation between design and realization. From assignments for private clients to the transformation of 4 historical buildings into a boutique hotel.
Arte Povera
Series inspired by The Arte Povera movement. This was a avant-garde movement has it's roots in Italy in the 1960s. Artists attacked the established institutions and did make new works of art from used poor or cheap materials. It was a way of critisizing the industrialisation and consumer consumption. There are several similarities with our era. In that perspective i also like to make use of ordinary materials like discarded clothes and other used textile fibers.
LIMITED EDITION GIFTBOX
Project for a Belgian company. I was asked to design a limited edition for a gift box, where each box is a unique work of art. For this project i made a design in porcelain, with a 'watercolor' artwork of oxide blue and iron oxide. Each plaque is made by hand, so each box is unique. After that, the plaque is given an inscription and numbering. All images will therefore vary. The box will be 'sealed' with a porcelain label.
Lightobject SHEETS
Light effects play an important role in my artistic work. Whether it's about oil paint, design or clay, light effects often form my starting point. Playing with shades of light is stunning. Porcelain is a matching material in this case. It has unique characteristics that makes it eminently suitable compared to other ceramic materials. When porcelain is stoked at high temperatures it becomes translucent. This translucent characteristic of porcelain inspired me for developing this light object.
Side Specific Art ‘De Wijde Wellen’ gemeente Harderwijk
The municipality of Harderwijk developed the historic boulevard along Wolderwijd during 2020/2021. In collaboration with the municipality of Harderwijk and landscape architects VIC Landscapes, I was asked to design and realize a side specific art piece. The art piece is positioned at the end of a unique walking path. The […]
Custom made interior objects
For several clients, different interior objects are designed and crafted by hand. Because every item is designed side specific, unique objects arise. Partly because they are specially made for the location but also due to the collaboration with the client. For example porcelain wash basins made by hand or light sculptures.

Metamorphose of 4 historical buildings on the riverside of the Hanzestad Kampen were transformed into a small boutique hotel. 4 different construction periods, from the 19th century, the oldest being a historical monument. A big challenge to lift these ancient buildings to the modern standards of a luxurious boutique hotel. […]
