immortalized
Years ago i started the Art project Immortalized. after years of experimentation and research. My fascination with the beauty and transience of nature inspired this series, in which the circle of life is immortalized. Although there is drama and melancholy within it, it is not a gloomy artwork; on the contrary, it celebrates the beauty of life.
Seed pods | roots | branches
Over the years, I have developed a unique technique based on natural materials. I use Dutch flowers, leaves, seed pods, roots, branches, and even seaweed from Scotland.
drowning + burning
Nature not only serves as an inspiration but is also physically present in my work. In the art project Immortalized, we immerse flowers, leaves, seed pods, branches, and grasses in clay, where they are encased and buried in the very material from which they grew. This process emphasizes the transience of nature and plays a central role in my work.
fragile
Because only a thin layer of clay envelops the natural material, and the real flowers and leaves burn away during the firing process, the work remains extremely fragile, even after firing. Much of the material breaks down during the process, which highlights the fragility and transience of life.
once a year
The process begins with carefully selecting natural materials, which I then pick and dry. Since each plant species can only be harvested once a year, I have spent years researching and testing. All the elements emerge as separate pieces from the kiln, and I carefully construct and assemble them one by one.
