light object Sheets

lichtobject Sheets

light object Sheets is a unique, hand-crafted porcelain object. The subtle transparency of the porcelain creates beautiful light effects. Light often plays a significant role in my work. By experimenting with light, I aim to evoke a particular mood or feeling. Whether it’s for creating a serene atmosphere or bringing warmth and depth to a space, light serves as a key element in shaping the emotional experience of the piece. Whenever it's about oil paint ,interiordesign ceramcis ,In an interior design, I begin with the question of where the sun rises and sets. This marks the starting point of my design process, as I place great importance on the presence of natural light. The way light shifts throughout the day influences the atmosphere and energy of a space, and by understanding its movement, I can create designs that harmonize with the changing light, enhancing the overall experience of the environment.

transluscent

t may not seem immediately obvious, but porcelain has unique properties that make it exceptionally suited for creating light effects. When porcelain is fired at high temperatures, it becomes partially translucent, giving the material a mysterious and captivating quality. Light passes through the porcelain, creating an entirely new play of light. It’s not just the contrast in light effects, but also the juxtaposition of soft shades and shadows against the hard material, the rectangular shapes of the design, that adds an element of intrigue. Some parts are translucent, while others remain opaque, enhancing the dynamic tension within the piece.

layers of paper

For the light object sheets, I have created thin layers of porcelain that evoke the delicate texture of paper. These "paper-like" layers are spaced apart, allowing light and shadow to play between them. In the center of the light object, a thin copper plate is placed, embedded with LED lighting. This setup causes the porcelain to become more or less translucent, depending on the intensity of the light, creating a dynamic interplay between transparency and opacity. The result is a captivating dance of light that brings the piece to life, transforming with every subtle shift in illumination.

rough skin

When the light object is not illuminated, the porcelain appears matte and pebble-white, with the rough 'skin' of the outer surface clearly visible. I deliberately chose not to endlessly refine or smooth the porcelain sheets, instead allowing the natural qualities of the material to remain prominent. By leaving the surface untreated, without glaze, I emphasize the raw, organic texture of the porcelain, showcasing its inherent beauty and tactile qualities. This approach highlights the contrast between the smooth translucence of the porcelain when lit and the rugged, unglazed exterior, creating a striking dialogue between light and material.
