Art piece PIEK

3d print piek

imperfection

The central theme of Art piece PIEK is imperfection. I printed the porcelain using a 3D printer, but not in the way it would technically be done. It is precisely when the printer "makes mistakes" and no longer follows the pre-programmed pattern that I find it interesting. For me, the beauty lies in the imperfect. That's when it becomes captivating and special. As a result, a beautiful lacework has emerged that is unique and could not be created in the traditional way.

error

It is strange to see modern techniques like 3D printing entering the realm of an ancient craft like ceramics. It is also fascinating to observe that it opens up new possibilities that didn’t exist before. In this project, I’ve tried to explore the boundaries of the new techniques of 3D printing.

lace

In this ceramic artwork PIEK, intriguing textures emerged that resemble lace, but in clay. An irregular pattern of delicate lacework with fragile beauty came to life. This structure cannot be created by hand in the same way. To let the structure truly stand out, I left the object white, only adding small highlights of gold for detail.

Contrast

Furthermore, the contrast between the fragility of the lacework and the strength of the porcelain is truly intriguing.
