Chef Schilo van Coevorden
Delfts blauw
For chef Schilo van Coevorden, I created a special series of large Delft Blue plates for the brasserie at the Conservatorium Hotel in Amsterdam. Schilo van Coevorden oversees the restaurants at the Conservatorium Hotel on Van Baerlestraat in Amsterdam. The hotel places great emphasis on ceramics, with a collection of ceramic masterpieces displayed as the central feature in the lounge and brasserie area.
Big Blue
Series Big Blue contains 18 unique Delft Blue plates .specifically designed for the Conservatorium Hotel Amsterdam, each plate features a distinctive Delft Blue pattern, where traditional craftsmanship has been applied in a contemporary way.
'Delft Blue from Asia'
Centuries ago, porcelain with typical blue decorations was exported from Asia to Europe. In the Netherlands, this Asian porcelain became so popular that a Dutch variant was created, eventually leading to the world-famous Delft Blue pottery. For the paintings, blue oxide pigment is used. During the firing process, it transforms into the recognizable Delft Blue. Because I apply the blue oxide pigment by hand, a unique pattern emerges in the porcelain. Each item is therefore a one-of-a-kind, standalone object. The pattern is not an image that fades over time, but the porcelain itself is colored through and through.
different collaboration
Another creative project for the Conservatorium hotel Amsterdam is the design and making of pitcher in porcelain The blue oxide pattern also connects to the historical link of Asian influences. The Delft Blue pattern is also a reference to Dutch tradition. All objects are handmade, and each pitcher features a unique Delft Blue design.
