Conservatorium hotel Amsterdam
This handmade soy pitcher was specially designed for the Japanese restaurant TAIKO in the exclusive Conservatorium Hotel where chef Schilo van Coevorden is in charge. This handmade pitcher unites Japanese sobriety with our Dutch 'Delft Blue' tradition.
Erlenmeyer
This design had to combine various elements: a reference to the Japanese basis of the Taiko restaurant, the origins of the Dutch chef and the Asian ingredient soy. Based on these three very different elements, I designed a pitcher with a sober shape, which is inspired by a chemical Erlenmeyer flask and does justice to the Japanese sober design tradition. Handmade from porcelain with a unique Delft Blue pattern.
'Delft Blue from Asia'
The design of the pitcher in porcelain with an oxide blue pattern is in line with the historical Asian link. Centuries ago, porcelain with the typical blue decorations was exported to Europe from Asia. In the Netherlands, this Asian porcelain became so popular that a Dutch variant was invented. This Dutch interpretation became world famous and known all over the world as 'Delft Blue pottery'. The Delft Blue pattern is therefore both a reference to the historical Asian origin and Dutch tradition.
Soy theme
Schilo works with a different theme every year. This pitcher is specifically designed for the soy theme. What is very special is that the soy that Schilo uses is produced on a very small scale in Zeeland.
